Karl has been applying ergonomic interventions for more than 15 years in a variety of work environments. In addition to his duties at MEMIC as Director of Ergonomics, Karl is also a co-project manager with NIOSH for the National Project, "Ergonomic Study of Maritime Industries". OSHA and NIOSH sponsor this project, which is charged with developing ergonomic guidelines for the maritime industry. Prior to his work with MEMIC, Karl was the Corporate Ergonomist at Bath Iron Works Corporation, a General Dynamics company. There he was responsible for overall program development, policies, and procedures. Karl has sat on various task forces and has implemented numerous ergonomic interventions in both the office and production environments. He has developed and presented training in multiple ergonomic disciplines in the U.S., Asia, and Europe.

Karl is also an Adjunct Professor in Ergonomics at the University of Southern Maine. Karl has a B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health from Columbia Southern University, where he graduated Cum Laude, and is a Certified Ergonomic Compliance Director. He has also received formal training in ergonomics from the Harvard School of Public Health, the University of Michigan, and NIOSH.
